Dear Emperor Akihito,

Enclosed you have found the first in a series of 10 annual World Peace Flags as a gift  for you and the people of Japan. Each year on August 9th the Peace Flag for that year will change and at the end of 10 years the Human Family will vote to see which of the 10 annual Flags will become the International Flag of Peace. We are a US 501 Non-Profit Organization and we give our profits to feed and house the hungry of the World. Others who help us market can earn compensation for their concerns.

We would like your thought as to the proposal of making August 9th of each year an  International Holiday entitled “International Day of Forgiveness.” It will be a day when the entire Human Family shares with their neighbors and nobody will go hungry. Driving of combustion engine vehicles will-be kept to a minimum. A-time to reflect as-to the assume power of “The Bomb”.  A day when in each time zone of the World for at least five minutes before and after 11: 02 AM each of us sits; in silence, meditation, thinking on1y of compassion for others. A time to ask for forgiveness for ones trespasses and a time to forgive those who have trespassed against us.

Also, enclosed find a documentary film which I written a movie script and filed with the Writers Guild.  I would also appreciate your comments regarding this.

As a matter of co-incidence it was interesting to learn that you and I have the same birthday. My birth date is December 23, 1944 (4:00 pm) and I was born in St Cloud, Minnesota, USA Another co-incidence is that the name Heisei is translated in English to Mean “The achievement of complete Peace on Earth and in the Heavens”.

Hopefully, one day we can meet. Together we can make a World of difference.

My personal cell telephone number is                 .

So, what is forgiveness anyway?  Let’s see….From the perspective of Love and Spirit, forgiveness is the willingness to let go of the hurtful past.  It is the decision to no longer suffer, to heal your heart and soul.  It is the choice to no longer find value in hatred or anger.  Annnnd, it is letting go of the desire to hurt others or ourselves because of something that is already in the past.      It is the willingness to open our eyes to the light in other people rather than to judge or to condemn them.  Simply put, forgiveness is releasing…and letting go!  It’s very much a part of letting Spirit run your life!!

OKAAAAAAAY….looks like we’re off to an OK start!

To forgive gang, is to feel the compassion, gentleness, tenderness and caring that is always within our hearts, no matter how the world may seem at the moment.  Forgiveness is the way to a place of inner peace and happiness, the way to our soul.  That place of peace is always available to us, always ready to welcome us in.  If, for the moment, we don’t see the WELCOME sign, it’s probably because it’s hidden by our own attachment to anger. Hmmm?  So you ask, what’s my point?  Forgiveness doesn’t have anything really to do with whoever it is you’re forgiving…it has everything to do with YOU!!! It releases YOU!  It heals YOU!  It comforts YOU!  C’mon, tell the truth, whoever it is you’re actually forgiving probably doesn’t even know you’re teed off with them.

Somehow, there is a part of us that believes we can get the peace of mind we seek by holding on to hatred, or anger, or pain. There’s a part of us which says that we’ve gotta protect ourselves and that we can achieve happiness and peace of mind by being attached to hatred and seeking revenge.  There’s a part of us that says we’ve gotta withdraw and withhold our love and our joy because we’ve been hurt in the past.  Screwy, huh? Talk about boxing yourself into a corner….

We can look upon forgiveness as a journey.     A journey across an imaginary sky from a world where we are always recycling our anger to a tulip filled place of peace.  That journey takes us into our own spiritual essence and into the heart of ourselves: the heart of Our Creator.  It takes us into a new world of expanding, unconditional love.

Through forgiveness, we receive all that our hearts could ever want.  We’re released from our fear, anger, and pain to experience oneness with each other and our spiritual Source.

Forgiveness is a way out of darkness and into the light of understanding.  It is one of our functions here on earth, allowing us to recognize ourselves as the light that lights up every man of the world.  Forgiveness allows us to escape the shadows of the past, whether those shadows are our own or another’s.

F.E.A.R.: Forgetting Everything’s All Right.  Forgiveness can free us from the imprisonment of fear and anger that we have imposed upon our minds.  It releases us from our need and hope to change the past.  When we forgive gang, our wounds of past grievances are cleansed and healed. Honest.  Suddenly we experience the reality of Life’s love.  In that reality, there is only love, nothing, nothing, nothing else.  In that reality, there is never anything to forgive.

In “A Course in Miracles”, there’s a really kewl passage about forgiveness. I’m quoting it here because it describes pretty succinctly the benefits that can be ours through practicing forgiveness.

“What could you want that forgiveness cannot give?  Do you want peace?

Forgiveness offers it.  Do you want happiness, a quiet mind, a certainty of purpose, and a sense of worth and beauty that transcends the world? Do you want care and safety, and the warmth of pure protection always?  Do you want a quietness that cannot be disturbed, a gentleness that never can be hurt, a deep abiding comfort, and a rest so perfect it can never be upset?

All this forgiveness offers you, and more.  It sparkles on your eyes as you awake, and gives you joy with which to meet the day.  It soothes your forehead while you sleep, and rests upon your eyelids so you see no dreams of fear and evil, malice and attack.  And when you wake again, it offers you another day of happiness and peace.  All this forgiveness offers you, and more.”
